Fans waited 30 years for the sequel, and last year it finally arrived: Happy Gilmore 2 premiered on Netflix, starring Adam Sandler with numerous star appearances. After the original became a cult classic over the years, the time was right for a revival. The wait paid off, as the film was one of the most successful Netflix movies of the year, reports Josh Carpenter in the Sports Business Journal.
Record-Breaking Streaming Success for Happy Gilmore 2
The film not only set a Netflix record during its opening weekend with nearly 47 million streaming minutes but was also watched for more than 6.2 billion minutes throughout the year while remaining in Netflix’s weekly Top 10 list. It topped the global Top 10 list for two weeks and stayed in the worldwide Top 10 for a total of five weeks.
Second Most-Watched Netflix Film Behind KPop Demon Hunters
Out of 39 films released by Netflix in 2025, Happy Gilmore 2 ranks second, only behind “KPop Demon Hunters,” which achieved over 17 billion minutes viewed globally.
