Fans waited 30 years for the sequel, and last year it finally arrived: Happy Gilmore 2 premiered on Netflix, starring Adam Sandler and featuring numerous star cameos. After the original became a cult classic over the years, the time was right for a reboot. The wait was worth it, as the film was one of the most successful Netflix movies of the year, reports Josh Carpenter in the Sports Business Journal.
A Record-Breaking Netflix Premiere for Happy Gilmore 2
The film set a Netflix record during its opening weekend with nearly 47 million streamed minutes and was watched for more than 6.2 billion minutes throughout the year while consistently ranking in Netflix’s weekly Top 10. It held the top spot on the global Top 10 list for two weeks and remained in the worldwide Top 10 for a total of five weeks.

Out of 39 movies Netflix released this year, Happy Gilmore 2 ranked second, only behind ‘KPop Demon Hunters’, which reached over 17 billion viewing minutes worldwide.
