Fans waited 30 years for the sequel, and last year it finally arrived: Happy Gilmore 2 premiered on Netflix, starring Adam Sandler with numerous star appearances. After the original became a cult classic over the years, it was time for a reboot. The wait paid off as the film became one of the most successful Netflix films of the year, reports Josh Carpenter in the Sports Business Journal.
Happy Gilmore 2 Sets Netflix Records
The film not only set a Netflix record on opening weekend with nearly 47 million streamed minutes but was watched for over 6.2 billion minutes throughout the year while consistently ranking in Netflix’s weekly Top 10. It topped the global Top 10 list for two weeks and remained in the worldwide Top 10 for five weeks in total.

Out of 39 films released by Netflix that year, Happy Gilmore 2 ranked second, only behind “KPop Demon Hunters,” which achieved more than 17 billion minutes watched.
