After the original grew into a cult classic over the years, the time was ripe for a reboot. The wait was worthwhile, as the film became one of the most successful Netflix movies of the year, according to Josh Carpenter in the Sports Business Journal.
Record-Breaking Netflix Success
The film set a Netflix record during its opening weekend with nearly 47 million streamed minutes and was watched for over 6.2 billion minutes throughout the year while staying in Netflix’s weekly Top 10 lists. It topped the global Top 10 list for two weeks and remained in the worldwide Top 10 for a total of five weeks.
Ranked Second Among Netflix Releases
Among the 39 films Netflix released in 2025, Happy Gilmore 2 ranked second only to ‘KPop Demon Hunters,’ which reached more than 17 billion minutes viewed.
