Fans waited 30 years for the sequel, and last year it finally arrived: Happy Gilmore 2 premiered on Netflix, featuring Adam Sandler in the lead role along with numerous star appearances. As the original film became a cult classic over the years, the time was right for a remake. The wait was rewarded, as the film became one of the most successful Netflix movies of the year, according to Josh Carpenter in the Sports Business Journal.
Record-Breaking Streaming Numbers
The film set a Netflix record during its opening weekend with nearly 47 million streamed minutes and was watched for over 6.2 billion minutes throughout the year while remaining in Netflix’s weekly Top 10. It topped the global Top 10 list for two weeks and stayed in the worldwide Top 10 for a total of five weeks.
Second Most-Watched Netflix Film in 2025
Out of 39 films released by Netflix this year, Happy Gilmore 2 ranked second, just behind “KPop Demon Hunters,” which amassed more than 17 billion minutes viewed.
