Fans waited 30 years for the sequel, and last year it finally arrived: Happy Gilmore 2 premiered on Netflix, starring Adam Sandler with numerous star appearances. As the original became a cult classic over the years, the time was ripe for a remake. And the wait paid off, as the film became one of the most successful Netflix movies of the year, according to Josh Carpenter at Sports Business Journal.
Record-Breaking Streaming Numbers for Happy Gilmore 2
The film set a Netflix record on its opening weekend with nearly 47 million streamed minutes. Over the year, it was watched for more than 6.2 billion minutes while staying in Netflix’s weekly Top 10 list. The movie ranked at the top of the global Top 10 list for two weeks and remained within the worldwide Top 10 for a total of five weeks.
