Fans waited 30 years for the sequel, and last year it finally arrived: Happy Gilmore 2 premiered on Netflix, starring Adam Sandler with numerous star cameos. As the original became a cult classic over the years, the time was right for a reboot. The wait was rewarded, as the film became one of Netflix’s most successful movies of the year, reports Josh Carpenter in the Sports Business Journal.
The Success of Happy Gilmore 2 on Netflix
The film set a Netflix record on its opening weekend with nearly 47 million streamed minutes and was viewed for more than 6.2 billion minutes throughout the year, staying in Netflix’s weekly top 10 lists. Happy Gilmore 2 topped the global top 10 list for two weeks and remained in the worldwide top 10 for a total of five weeks.

Out of 39 films released by Netflix in 2025, Happy Gilmore 2 ranked second, only behind “KPop Demon Hunters,” which achieved over 17 billion streamed minutes.
