After 30 years of anticipation, fans finally got the sequel: Happy Gilmore 2 premiered on Netflix last year, starring Adam Sandler and featuring numerous celebrity cameos. As the original had evolved into a cult classic over the years, the time was ripe for a reboot. The wait paid off, as the film became one of the most successful Netflix releases of the year, according to Josh Carpenter from the Sports Business Journal.
Record-Breaking Streaming Numbers
The film set a Netflix record on its opening weekend with nearly 47 million streamed minutes and was watched for more than 6.2 billion minutes throughout the year while staying in Netflix’s weekly Top 10. It topped the global Top 10 list for two weeks and remained in the worldwide Top 10 for a total of five weeks.
Top Ranking Among Netflix Releases in 2025
Out of 39 films released by Netflix in 2025, Happy Gilmore 2 ranks second, trailing only behind “KPop Demon Hunters,” which amassed over 17 billion minutes viewed.
