Golf Weekly Preview: Two Venues, One Start to the New Golf Year

This golf week sees the DP World Tour season start in Dubai alongside the PGA Tour kickoff at the Sony Open in Hawaii.

While the International Swing begins in Dubai, the PGA Tour in Honolulu is collecting the year’s first results. MagentaTV broadcasts both tournaments live from Thursday to Sunday, covering a season start unfolding simultaneously on two continents. Here is the golf weekly preview.

DP World Tour: Dubai Kicks Off the International Swing

This week begins in Dubai, where the DP World Tour starts its new year with the Dubai Invitational. The Dubai Creek Resort hosts the opening of the International Swing, leading the Race to Dubai into the new season. For three days, the Pro-Am format dominates before Sunday’s play features professionals only. Defending champion Tommy Fleetwood begins the season in a field including Rory McIlroy, Shane Lowry, Francesco Molinari, Patrick Reed, Danny Willett, and Padraig Harrington. German fans also look to Dubai as Nicolai von Dellingshausen and Marcel Siem compete at the season opener. Broadcasts start at 08:30 daily on MagentaTV.

PGA Tour: Sony Open Takes Over Season Start

The second and final highlight of the golf week begins in Hawaii, where the PGA Tour opens its season at the Sony Open — unexpectedly. Due to ongoing drought conditions in Kapalua, the traditional season opener The Sentry was canceled, making the Sony Open in Honolulu the inaugural tournament. Players vie for a purse of $9.1 million and the first FedExCup points of the season. Defending champion Nick Taylor leads the field, which also includes J.J. Spaun, Robert MacIntyre, and Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley. Germany’s Matti Schmid is also competing. Live broadcasts start Thursday and Friday at 18:00, and on Saturday and Sunday at 18:15.
