Golf Weekly Preview: Two Locations, One Start to the New Season

This week marks the start of the DP World Tour season in Dubai along with the PGA Tour kickoff at the Sony Open in Hawaii.

As the International Swing kicks off in Dubai, the PGA Tour gathers its first results of the year in Honolulu. MagentaTV broadcasts both tournaments live from Thursday to Sunday, covering a season start written on two continents simultaneously. Here is the golf weekly preview.

DP World Tour: Dubai Opens the International Swing

The week begins in Dubai, where the DP World Tour starts the new year with the Dubai Invitational. At the Dubai Creek Resort, the International Swing begins, leading the Race to Dubai into the new season. For three days, the focus is on the Pro-Am format before only professionals compete on Sunday. Defending champion Tommy Fleetwood kicks off the season in a field featuring Rory McIlroy, Shane Lowry, Francesco Molinari, Patrick Reed, Danny Willett, and Padraig Harrington. From a German perspective, eyes are on Dubai as Nicolai von Dellingshausen and Marcel Siem start the season. Broadcasts start at 8:30 am on all tournament days on MagentaTV.

PGA Tour: Sony Open Takes Over Season Start

The second and final highlight of the golf week starts in Hawaii, where the PGA Tour begins its season at the Sony Open—unexpectedly. Due to ongoing drought conditions in Kapalua, the traditional season opener The Sentry was canceled, making the Sony Open in Honolulu the season’s start. Players compete for a prize fund of $9.1 million and the first FedExCup points of the season. Defending champion Nick Taylor leads the field, which also includes J.J. Spaun, Robert MacIntyre, and Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley. From Germany, Matti Schmid is in the field. Live broadcasts start Thursday and Friday at 6:00 pm and Saturday and Sunday at 6:15 pm.
