Golf Weekly Preview: Two Venues, One Start to the New Golf Year

This week marks the start of the DP World Tour season in Dubai, alongside the PGA Tour kickoff at the Sony Open in Hawaii.

While the International Swing opens in Dubai, the PGA Tour in Honolulu is gathering the first results of the year. MagentaTV will broadcast both tournaments live from Thursday to Sunday, accompanying a season start that is written on two continents simultaneously. The golf weekly preview.

DP World Tour: Dubai Launches the International Swing

This golf week begins in Dubai, where the DP World Tour kicks off the new year with the Dubai Invitational. At the Dubai Creek Resort, the International Swing starts, leading the Race to Dubai into the new season. For three days, the focus is on the Pro-Am format before the professionals play exclusively on Sunday. Defending champion Tommy Fleetwood opens the season in a field that includes Rory McIlroy, Shane Lowry, Francesco Molinari, Patrick Reed, Danny Willett, and Padraig Harrington. From a German perspective, the eyes are also on Dubai as Nicolai von Dellingshausen and Marcel Siem take on the opening. Broadcasts start daily at 8:30 a.m. on MagentaTV.

PGA Tour: Sony Open Takes Over Season Start

The second and final highlight of the golf week starts in Hawaii, where the PGA Tour begins its season at the Sony Open — unexpectedly. Due to ongoing drought conditions in Kapalua, the traditional season opener The Sentry was canceled, allowing the Sony Open in Honolulu to take over the season start. Players compete for a prize fund of 9.1 million US dollars and the first FedExCup points of the season. Defending champion Nick Taylor returns, along with J.J. Spaun, Robert MacIntyre, and Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley. From the German side, Matti Schmid is in the field. Live broadcasts start Thursday and Friday at 6:00 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday at 6:15 p.m.
