This golf week marks the DP World Tour season start in Dubai, coinciding with the PGA Tour kickoff at the Sony Open in Hawaii.
As the International Swing kicks off in Dubai, the PGA Tour in Honolulu gathers the first results of the year. MagentaTV broadcasts both tournaments live from Thursday to Sunday, accompanying a season start played out on two continents at once. The golf weekly preview.
DP World Tour: Dubai Opens the International Swing
This golf week begins in Dubai, where the DP World Tour starts the new year with the Dubai Invitational. The Dubai Creek Resort hosts the kickoff for the International Swing, leading the Race to Dubai into the new season. Three days focus on the Pro-Am format before Sunday’s play is exclusively for professionals. Defending champion Tommy Fleetwood opens the season in a field featuring Rory McIlroy, Shane Lowry, Francesco Molinari, Patrick Reed, Danny Willett, and Padraig Harrington. From the German side, eyes are on Dubai as Nicolai von Dellingshausen and Marcel Siem take on the season opener. Coverage begins daily at 8:30 AM on MagentaTV.
PGA Tour: Sony Open Takes the Season Opener
The second and final highlight of the golf week starts in Hawaii, where the PGA Tour begins its season at the Sony Open—unexpectedly. Due to ongoing drought conditions in Kapalua, the traditional season opener The Sentry was canceled, making the Sony Open in Honolulu the season’s kickoff. Players compete for a $9.1 million purse and the first FedExCup points of the year. Defending champion Nick Taylor leads the field, joined by J.J. Spaun, Robert MacIntyre, and Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley. German player Matti Schmid also starts. Live broadcasts begin Thursday and Friday at 6:00 PM, and on Saturday and Sunday at 6:15 PM.
