Starting in 2026, the DP World Tour will present the Rory McIlroy Award to the top Major performer of the season.
The DP World Tour has announced a new annual award named after one of its most iconic players. The Rory McIlroy Award will be given to the Tour member who earns the most Race to Dubai points across all four Majors in a season. “To have something that carries my name and will be handed to future generations means a lot to me,” said McIlroy, who made history in April by becoming the first European to complete the career Grand Slam with his fourth Major title.
DP World Tour honors McIlroy’s historic Grand Slam
With this new award, McIlroy joins the ranks of legendary figures commemorated by the Tour, including the Seve Ballesteros Award, Harry Vardon Trophy, Sir Henry Cotton Award, and John Jacobs Trophy. The award celebrates McIlroy’s milestone victory at the Masters, where he completed his Major collection in a dramatic showdown with Justin Rose, his Ryder Cup teammate.
Elite company and future inspiration
McIlroy now joins an exclusive club of players who have won all four Majors, alongside Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods, and Gary Player. “I’m incredibly proud to be the first European to achieve the career Grand Slam,” McIlroy said. “I hope my journey inspires other DP World Tour members.” Tour CEO Guy Kinnings added, “Rory’s Grand Slam was a landmark moment. This award is designed to motivate others to follow in his footsteps.”
Consistency across the Majors rewarded
While McIlroy himself is ineligible to win the award, his name will be ever-present from 2026 onward. The award will recognize the player who performs most consistently across the Masters, PGA Championship, US Open, and Open Championship. Rather than a single standout performance, it will reward sustained excellence on golf’s biggest stages. “The Majors are the pinnacle of what we can achieve in golf,” McIlroy emphasized.
