From Cockpit Dreams to DP World Tour Success: Nicolai von Dellingshausen

Nicolai von Dellingshausen shares his favorite courses, travel spots, and goals for the 2025 DP World Tour season.

Pilot or pro golfer? For Nicolai von Dellingshausen, that was once more than a hypothetical question. In 2013, he passed Lufthansa’s selection process, paving the way for a structured career in aviation. But he chose a different path—one that followed the golf ball instead of flight paths. Today, he is one of Germany’s established players on the DP World Tour.

DP World Tour Goals and Mental Strength

When reflecting on his best round, von Dellingshausen immediately recalls his victory in Austria—not just for the trophy, but for how everything clicked from tee to green, mentally and physically. On the flip side, he openly shares a less glorious moment at the BMW International Open, where a mishit wedge ended up in the bushes behind the green, turning his walk back to the bunker into a classic “walk of shame.”

His love for travel remains strong. Among his favorite destinations is the historic Wentworth Club near London. He also enjoys playing in Singapore. If he had to choose just one place to play for the rest of his life, it would be the courses in Melbourne—Victoria or Kingston Heath.

Inspiration from Rory and Roger

Von Dellingshausen draws sporting inspiration from Rory McIlroy. After a round together, what stuck with him most was McIlroy’s pure ball contact. Outside of golf, he looks up to Roger Federer as a role model. When asked about his closest friend on the DP World Tour, he diplomatically names all German players, highlighting the strong camaraderie and team spirit. His goal for the current season? Stay steady, keep developing his game, and seize opportunities—without making bold proclamations.
