Bernhard Langer reflects on his cherished memories at the PNC Championship and playing alongside his son.
German golf legend Bernhard Langer fondly recalls his first appearance at the PNC Championship. At the time, his son was still in high school—young, ambitious, and suddenly among the greats of the game. “We had a blast,” Langer says. “He had to compete against professional teams—hitting drives and then aiming for the green with an 8-iron, even though he was three over par.” It wasn’t about the score, though. “It was just a wonderful time,” he adds. That debut marked the beginning of a tradition that continues to this day. “I loved this tournament from the first moment I was invited.”

Among Major Champions and Legends
The PNC Championship brings together golfers who have shaped the history of the sport. For Langer, that’s part of the appeal. “Being out there with other Major champions and some legends of the game is something special,” he says. But it’s not about trophies or prestige—it’s about sharing the game with family. “It’s one of my favorite tournaments.” Great careers meet budding swings, with Langer at the heart of it all—as a father and a competitor.
A Holiday Tradition
The December date makes the PNC Championship special for many players—including Langer. “It’s a wonderful time of year, just before Christmas, when families come together. It feels like a family reunion,” he says. While the PGA Tour and other circuits are on winter break, this event offers a unique blend of golf, camaraderie, and generational connection.
