Bernhard Langer on Why the PNC Championship Means So Much to Him

Bernhard Langer reflects on his PNC Championship memories and the special moments playing alongside his son.

Bernhard Langer vividly remembers his first appearance at the PNC Championship. Back then, his son was still in high school—young, ambitious, and suddenly among the greats. “We had a blast,” Langer recalls. “At that time, he had to compete against professional teams—hitting drives and then aiming for the green with an 8-iron, even though he was three over par.” It wasn’t easy, but that wasn’t the point. “It was just a wonderful time.” That debut marked the beginning of a cherished tradition for Langer. “I loved this tournament from the moment I was invited.”

Legends, Majors, and Family Bonds

The PNC Championship brings together golfers who have shaped the game’s history. For Bernhard Langer, that’s part of the magic. “Being out there with other major champions and legends of the game is something truly special,” he says. But it’s not about trophies or prestige—it’s about sharing the experience with family. “It’s one of my favorite tournaments.” Great careers meet budding swings, with Langer in the middle—as both father and player.

A Holiday Tradition

The December timing makes the tournament extra special for many players—including Langer. “It’s a wonderful time of year, right before Christmas, when families come together. It feels like a family reunion.” While the PGA Tour and other circuits take a winter break, the PNC Championship offers a unique blend of golf, camaraderie, and generational connection.
