Shane Lowry added his name to The Masters’ history books on Sunday, carding an ace at the par-3 sixth hole at Augusta National Golf Club. The shot marks the seventh hole-in-one in the tournament’s storied history at that particular hole—and the second of Lowry’s own Masters career.

The Irish professional’s eagle came as a welcome moment during the final round of golf’s most prestigious spring event. Lowry’s previous ace at Augusta came 16 years prior, when he found the cup at the 16th hole. Both performances have cemented moments of brilliance that fans and broadcasters alike readily recall.

A Career Defined by Memorable Shots

Lowry has established a reputation throughout his professional career for producing spectacular moments on some of golf’s most iconic stages. Beyond his two Masters aces, the European standout has delivered notable hole-in-ones at other celebrated venues. Most notably, he recorded an ace at the seventh at Pebble Beach—one of American golf’s most photographed par-3s—and another at the 17th at TPC Sawgrass, home of the Players Championship.

Just weeks before his Sunday performance at Augusta, Lowry had recorded yet another hole-in-one while competing in Houston, further underscoring his ability to execute under pressure on golf’s grandest stages. These shots reflect not merely fortune, but a consistent ability to strike the golf ball precisely when it matters most.

Augusta’s Exclusive Ace Club

The sixth hole at Augusta National has proven a particularly productive par-3 for aces over the tournament’s history. With Lowry’s shot, seven players have now recorded holes-in-one at this location since The Masters began. The achievement places him among a select group of competitors who have managed the feat more than once during their Masters careers.

The patrons lining the gallery at the sixth gave Lowry an ovation following his ace—a traditional acknowledgment of excellence at Augusta. At the neighbouring 16th hole, Harris English, who was competing nearby, offered his own congratulations to the Irishman in good spirit, recognizing the significance of the moment.

Lowry’s performance in the final round contributed to his finishing score at the PGA Tour‘s most celebrated major championship, held annually at Augusta National in Georgia.
