LIV Golf: Three New Wildcards Secured for 2026 Season

Three players, including returning Anthony Kim, earn spots for the upcoming LIV Golf season at the Promotions event.

A spot in the LIV Golf League is fiercely contested. At the Promotions held at Black Diamond Ranch, 22 players competed for exactly three wildcards for the 2026 season. Two final rounds, 36 holes, and immense pressure culminated in Richard T. Lee, Bjorn Hellgren, and Anthony Kim securing their places for the upcoming LIV Golf season starting February 4 in Riyadh. Besides the wildcards, ten other players qualified for the International Series of the Asian Tour.

Richard T. Lee Prevails at LIV Golf Promotions

Richard T. Lee from Canada won the LIV Golf Promotions with a total score of eleven under par. Posting rounds of 64 and 65 during the final weekend, he pulled clearly ahead. Lee is the first Canadian to qualify for LIV Golf. His decision to participate was last minute, as he only registered for the event at the beginning of January. Lee, who boasts six professional wins, has competed in recent years on the Asian and Korean Tours and was the 2013 Asian Tour Rookie of the Year.

Hellgren Takes a Risk and is Rewarded

Bjorn Hellgren had significant ground to make up on Sunday, starting from 11th place — not an easy spot. The Swede went all-in, making four birdies on the last six holes and shooting a 64, tying the course record, and ultimately finishing second. His final day strategy was powerful tee shots, secure approaches, and hot putting. Hellgren will be making his LIV Golf debut in 2026. The 35-year-old has eight professional wins to his name, most recently the Saudi Open in December.

Anthony Kim Returns to LIV Golf on His Own Merit

Anthony Kim is no stranger to the LIV Golf stage, but his third league start has a special note. After returning in 2024 following a 12-year hiatus with a two-year wildcard status, that stint ended. Now, he has earned his spot once again through his own performance. Scores of 66 on Saturday and 69 on Sunday secured him third place — key factors were smart course management and an important putt on the 14th hole. Qualifying for 2026 marks a continuation of the 40-year-old’s comeback after twelve years away from golf, now holding a permanent place on the LIV Golf calendar. “I believe in myself more than anyone else,” Kim said, a statement one cannot help but believe given his journey.
