Fans waited 30 years for the sequel, and last year it finally arrived: Happy Gilmore 2 premiered on Netflix, starring Adam Sandler with numerous star appearances. As the original evolved into a cult classic over the years, the time was right for a reboot. The wait paid off, as the film became one of the most successful Netflix releases of the year, according to Josh Carpenter in the Sports Business Journal.
Record-Breaking Streaming Numbers for Happy Gilmore 2
The film set a Netflix record on its opening weekend with nearly 47 million streamed minutes and was viewed for more than 6.2 billion minutes throughout the year, remaining in Netflix’s weekly Top 10. It topped the global Top 10 list for two weeks and stayed in the worldwide Top 10 for a total of five weeks.

Out of 39 films released by Netflix that year, Happy Gilmore 2 ranked second, only behind “KPop Demon Hunters,” which achieved over 17 billion minutes of viewing time.
