Fans waited 30 years for the sequel, and last year it finally arrived: Happy Gilmore 2 premiered on Netflix, starring Adam Sandler along with numerous star cameos. As the original became a cult classic over the years, the time was ripe for a reboot. The wait was worth it, as the film became one of Netflix’s most successful movies of the year, reports Josh Carpenter in the Sports Business Journal.
Record-Breaking Streaming Numbers for Happy Gilmore 2
The film set a Netflix record on its opening weekend with nearly 47 million streamed minutes and was watched for over 6.2 billion minutes throughout the year, remaining in Netflix’s weekly Top 10 lists. It held the number one spot on the global Top 10 list for two weeks and stayed in the worldwide Top 10 for a total of five weeks.
Netflix’s Second Most-Watched Film of the Year
Out of 39 films Netflix released in 2025, Happy Gilmore 2 ranks second only to “KPop Demon Hunters,” which achieved more than 17 billion minutes streamed.
