Fans waited 30 years for a sequel, and last year they finally got it: Happy Gilmore 2 premiered on Netflix starring Adam Sandler and featuring numerous celebrity cameos. As the original grew into a cult classic over the years, the time was ripe for a remake. And the wait paid off, as the film became one of the most successful Netflix movies of the year, according to Josh Carpenter in the Sports Business Journal.
Record-Breaking Streaming Numbers for Happy Gilmore 2
The film not only set a Netflix record on its opening weekend with nearly 47 million minutes streamed but was viewed for over 6.2 billion minutes throughout the year while remaining in Netflix’s weekly Top 10 lists. It topped the global Top 10 rankings for two weeks and stayed within the worldwide Top 10 for a total of five weeks.
Ranking Among Netflix Releases in 2025
Out of 39 films released by Netflix this year, Happy Gilmore 2 ranked second, only behind “KPop Demon Hunters,” which reached more than 17 billion minutes streamed globally.
