Fans waited 30 years for the sequel, and last year it finally arrived: Happy Gilmore 2 premiered on Netflix, starring Adam Sandler with numerous star appearances. After the original became a cult classic over the years, the time was right for a reboot. And the wait paid off, as the film became one of the most successful Netflix movies of the year, according to Josh Carpenter in the Sports Business Journal.
Record-Breaking Streaming Numbers for Happy Gilmore 2
The film not only set a Netflix record with nearly 47 million streamed minutes during its opening weekend but was also watched for over 6.2 billion minutes throughout the year, maintaining a place in Netflix’s weekly Top 10. It topped the global Top 10 list for two weeks and stayed in the worldwide Top 10 for a total of five weeks.
Ranking Among Netflix Releases in 2025
Out of 39 films released by Netflix in 2025, Happy Gilmore 2 ranks second, only behind “KPop Demon Hunters,” which achieved over 17 billion streamed minutes.
