Fans waited 30 years for the sequel, and last year it finally arrived: Happy Gilmore 2 premiered on Netflix, starring Adam Sandler and featuring numerous star cameos. As the original became a cult classic over the years, the time was ripe for a remake. The wait was rewarded as the film became one of Netflix’s most successful movies of the year, according to Josh Carpenter of Sports Business Journal.
Record-Breaking Viewership for Happy Gilmore 2
The film set a Netflix record during its opening weekend with nearly 47 million streamed minutes and was watched for over 6.2 billion minutes throughout the year while consistently ranking in Netflix’s weekly Top 10. It topped the global Top 10 list for two weeks and remained in the worldwide Top 10 for a total of five weeks.
