Girton Golf Club: Importance of Repairing Pitch Marks on Greens

Learn how to properly repair pitch marks to maintain our greens. Help us keep Girton’s course in great shape!

Despite a lot of great care from members, we’re still seeing divot marks being left unrepaired on the greens — and it’s starting to take its toll.

Why Repair Pitch Marks?

Greens don’t heal like fairways. A pitch mark left behind can affect putting lines for days (sometimes weeks), and it only takes a few seconds to put it right.

How to Repair a Pitch Mark (The Right Way)

Step 1: Insert your Pitch Repairer at the edge of the mark — not the middle.

Step 2: Gently push the turf back towards the centre from all sides (Do not lift upwards).

Step 3: Lightly tap down with your putter to smooth the surface.

Bonus Tip: Fix one extra pitch mark — the greens will thank you.
