Fans waited 30 years for the sequel, and last year it finally arrived: Happy Gilmore 2 premiered on Netflix, starring Adam Sandler with numerous star appearances. After the original became a cult film over the years, the time was right for a new version. The wait paid off, as the film was one of the most successful Netflix movies of the year, according to Josh Carpenter in the Sports Business Journal.
Record-Breaking Streaming Success for Happy Gilmore 2
The film set a Netflix record on its opening weekend with nearly 47 million streamed minutes, and throughout the year it was watched for more than 6.2 billion minutes while ranking in Netflix’s weekly Top 10. The film led the global Top 10 list for two weeks and stayed in the worldwide Top 10 for a total of five weeks.
Second Most-Watched Netflix Film of 2025
Out of 39 films released by Netflix this year, Happy Gilmore 2 holds the second position, only behind “KPop Demon Hunters,” which achieved over 17 billion streamed minutes.
