Fans waited 30 years for the sequel, and last year it finally arrived: Happy Gilmore 2 premiered on Netflix, starring Adam Sandler with numerous star appearances. As the original became a cult classic over the years, the time was right for a revival. And the wait was rewarded, as the film became one of the most successful Netflix releases of the year, according to Josh Carpenter from the Sports Business Journal.
Record-Breaking Streaming Numbers for Happy Gilmore 2
The film set a Netflix record on its opening weekend with nearly 47 million streamed minutes. Over the course of the year, it was watched for more than 6.2 billion minutes while remaining in Netflix’s weekly Top 10. It topped the global Top 10 list for two weeks and stayed in the worldwide Top 10 for a total of five weeks.
Ranking Among Netflix Releases in 2025
Out of 39 films released by Netflix in 2025, Happy Gilmore 2 ranks second, only behind “KPop Demon Hunters,” which reached more than 17 billion minutes streamed.
