Atlanta Drive GC wins an exciting TGL match 7:4 against The Bay GC, remaining unbeaten.
Before the third match of the new TGL season, roles were clear: defending champion Atlanta Drive GC arrived at the SoFi Center with one win under their belt, while The Bay Golf Club was set for their season debut. After 15 holes, the final score was 7:4. Key players Billy Horschel, Patrick Cantlay, and substitute Chris Gotterup secured crucial points in singles, earning Atlanta four of six possible points. After an even start, Atlanta surged from hole 11 onwards. “We come in, practice, play our game – it fits,” said Horschel. Despite the absence of injured Justin Thomas, Atlanta’s depth showed strong. It marked their ninth win in the last ten TGL matches – an impressive record.
TGL: Gotterup brings Atlanta back in the game
For the second consecutive match, Chris Gotterup scored for Atlanta and was again a vital factor. After a scoreless start on hole 1, he put Atlanta in the lead on hole 2 with a nine-foot par putt. The Bay responded immediately with hammer plays, leaving Atlanta trailing 1:2. Momentum shifted on hole 6, the “Alpine”. Gotterup chipped in for eagle to even the score, an emotional boost despite The Bay not using their hammer. “I try to see as much as possible on the greens – it’s tricky with all the lighting,” said Gotterup, “but making putts like that prepares you.”

The Bay failed to capitalize on their opportunities, and Atlanta regained the lead on hole 8. A brief lapse allowed The Bay back on hole 10 singles, but then the Stinger hole came. “I like hitting the ball low, and TGL suits that,” said Gotterup, who carried a 1-iron for this 300-yard shot, pushing Atlanta ahead 4:3. Confidence grew thanks to teammates Billy and Pat’s support.
Atlanta added more points on holes 12 to 14, culminating with Billy Horschel’s birdie from eight feet on hole 13 to seal the victory. “
