Atlanta Drive GC wins a thrilling TGL match 7-4 against The Bay GC, maintaining their unbeaten streak.
Before the third match of the new TGL season, roles were clear: defending champions Atlanta Drive GC came to the SoFi Center with a win under their belt, while The Bay Golf Club was making their debut of the season. After 15 holes, the final score was 7-4. The decisive lead was secured mainly in the singles format by the team around Billy Horschel, Patrick Cantlay, and substitute Chris Gotterup, earning four of six possible points. After a balanced start, Atlanta took control from hole 11. “We come in, train, play our game – it works,” said Horschel. Even without the injured Justin Thomas, the team shows great depth. This marked the ninth win in the last ten TGL matches – an impressive record.
TGL: Gotterup Brings Atlanta Back Into Play
For the second consecutive time, Chris Gotterup was on the scoreboard for Atlanta and was a key factor again. After a scoreless start on hole 1, he put Atlanta ahead with a par putt from just under nine feet on hole 2. The Bay responded quickly using the Hammer on following holes, putting Atlanta behind 1:2. The first clear momentum shift came on hole 6, called “Alpine.” After The Bay had leveled, Gotterup chipped in for an eagle, bringing Atlanta back on par. Even though The Bay did not throw the Hammer, the emotional impact was palpable: tie game. “I try to see as much as possible on the greens – with all the lights, it’s not easy,” Gotterup later said. “But when you make putts like that, you know what to expect.”
