Fans waited 30 years for the sequel, and last year it finally arrived: Happy Gilmore 2 premiered on Netflix, starring Adam Sandler and featuring numerous star appearances. As the original became a cult classic over the years, the time was right for a reboot. The wait paid off, as the film became one of the most successful Netflix movies of the year, according to Josh Carpenter of the Sports Business Journal.
Record-Breaking Streaming Success
The film set a Netflix record on its opening weekend with nearly 47 million streamed minutes and was viewed for over 6.2 billion minutes throughout the year while staying in Netflix’s weekly Top 10. It topped the global Top 10 list for two weeks and remained within the worldwide Top 10 for a total of five weeks.
Ranking Among Netflix Releases in 2025
Out of 39 films Netflix released that year, Happy Gilmore 2 ranked second in total streaming minutes, only behind “KPop Demon Hunters,” which reached more than 17 billion minutes watched.
