TGL Golf Stars Share New Year’s Resolutions Ahead of Season Start

At the turn of the year, TGL reveals personal New Year’s resolutions of its star players before their match day.

Entering its second season, TGL continues its innovative approach: six teams, each with four PGA Tour top players, compete in a 3-on-3 format. Matches are held indoors at the SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, a nearly 250,000-square-foot high-tech complex seating around 1,600 spectators. Instead of traditional 18-hole rounds, matches feature 15 holes divided into two segments: nine holes in alternate-shot ‘Triples’ format and six holes in direct head-to-head ‘Singles’. The season consists of five regular matches per team, followed by playoffs including semifinals and a best-of-three final. Points are awarded NHL-style, including overtime bonuses.

Coffee, Character, Continuity: TGL’s New Year Perspective

This stage brings familiar faces together on the course as TGL offers insight into its players’ resolutions for the new season, ranging from small personal goals to bigger ambitions. Chris Gotterup kept it practical: making coffee at home instead of morning stops at Starbucks or Dunkin’—the machine is ready, but he still needs to master its use. Billy Horschel’s goal was more fundamental: to be a better version of himself, especially off the golf course.

Xander Schauffele Prefers No Resolutions

Xander Schauffele was brief: “I don’t do that. I am just me,” he said dryly—a man who needs no showmanship. Horschel admired this, joking, “We all wish we were Xander.” Schauffele replied wryly, “I don’t know… maybe you’d be happier.”

Michael Thorbjornsen expressed a clear wish: to play more tournaments with Collin Morikawa, who liked the idea but had no resolutions ready himself. Sahith Theegala kept it simple and clear: “Stay healthy. Play well.” Justin Rose reflected on past resolutions that didn’t stick and aimed to change that this year: “No more years where I don’t keep my resolutions.”
