TGL Golf Stars Share Their New Year’s Resolutions Ahead of Season Start

At the turn of the year, TGL reveals personal New Year’s resolutions from its star players before their match day.

Entering its second season, the TGL continues its innovative approach: six teams, each with four top PGA Tour players, compete in a 3-on-3 format. Matches are played indoors at the SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, a nearly 250,000-square-foot high-tech venue seating around 1,600 spectators. Instead of traditional 18-hole rounds, matches feature 15 holes split into two segments: nine holes of alternate shot (‘Triples’) and six holes of head-to-head singles. The season includes five regular meetings per team, followed by playoffs with semifinals and a best-of-three final. Scoring follows an NHL-inspired system, including overtime bonuses.

New Year’s Resolutions: Coffee, Character, Continuity on the TGL Stage

This platform unites familiar faces, and as the new season begins, TGL offers insight into its players’ resolutions—ranging from small personal goals to larger ambitions. Chris Gotterup took a practical approach: brewing coffee at home instead of visiting Starbucks or Dunkin’ daily—the machine is ready; now he just needs to operate it. Billy Horschel aimed broader, striving to be a better version of himself, especially off the course.

Xander Schauffele Prefers No Resolutions at All

Xander Schauffele was brief: “I don’t do those. I’m just me,” he said dryly—a type who needs no show. Horschel was impressed: “We all wish we were Xander,” he laughed. Schauffele replied dryly, “I don’t know… maybe you’d be happier.”

Michael Thorbjornsen had a clear wish: more tournaments with Collin Morikawa. Morikawa liked the idea but had no resolution yet. Sahith Theegala kept it simple: “Stay injury-free. Don’t play poorly.” And Justin Rose? He recalled past resolutions that failed and aims to change that: “No more years where I don’t keep my resolutions.”
