TGL Golf Stars Share Their New Year’s Resolutions Ahead of Season

At the turn of the year, TGL reveals personal New Year’s resolutions of its star players before their matchday.

Entering its second season, TGL continues with its innovative format: six teams, each consisting of four top PGA Tour players, compete in a 3-on-3 format. Matches are played indoors at the SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, a nearly 250,000-square-foot high-tech complex with seating for about 1,600 spectators. Instead of traditional 18-hole rounds, matches feature 15 holes divided into two segments: nine holes in team play (‘Triples’) and six in direct singles matchups. The season includes five regular matches per team, followed by playoffs with semifinals and a best-of-three final. Points are awarded similarly to the NHL, including overtime bonuses.

New Year’s Resolutions at TGL: Coffee, Character, and Continuity

This stage brings familiar faces together on the course, and as the new season begins, TGL provides insight into their players’ resolutions. These range from small to significant personal goals. Chris Gotterup took a practical approach: making coffee at home instead of grabbing Starbucks or Dunkin’ every morning. The machine is ready—he just needs to operate it. Billy Horschel chose a broader goal: becoming a better version of himself, especially off the course.

Xander Schauffele Prefers No Resolutions

Xander Schauffele kept it brief: ‘I don’t do those. I’m just me,’ he said dryly—typical of the type who doesn’t need a show. Horschel was impressed, laughing, ‘We all wish we were Xander.’ Schauffele replied dryly, ‘I don’t know… maybe you’d be happier.’

Michael Thorbjornsen had one clear wish: to play more tournaments with Collin Morikawa, who liked the idea but had no resolution yet. Sahith Theegala was concise: ‘Stay healthy. Don’t play badly.’ And Justin Rose? He recalled past failed resolutions and aims to change that this year: ‘No more years where I don’t keep my resolutions.’
