Bernhard Langer on the PNC Championship: Family, Golf and Legacy

Bernhard Langer shares his memories of the PNC Championship and why playing with his son makes it so special.

Bernhard Langer vividly recalls his first appearance at the PNC Championship. At the time, his son was still in high school—young, ambitious, and thrown into a field of seasoned professionals. “We had a blast,” Langer says. “Back then, he had to compete against pro teams—hitting drives and aiming for the green with an 8-iron, even when he was three over par.” It wasn’t about the score, though. “It was just a wonderful experience.” That debut marked the beginning of a cherished tradition. “I loved this tournament from the moment I got the invitation.”

Among Major Champions and Legends

The PNC Championship unites golfers who have made history. For Bernhard Langer, that’s part of the magic. “Being out there with other Major champions and legends of the game is something truly special,” he says. But it’s not about trophies or prestige—it’s about sharing the game with family. “It’s one of my favorite tournaments.” Great careers meet youthful swings, with Langer at the center—as both father and competitor.

A Holiday Tradition

The December date makes the tournament special for many players—including Bernhard Langer. “It’s a wonderful time of year, right before Christmas, when families come together. It feels like a family reunion.” While the PGA Tour and other circuits are on winter break, this event offers a unique blend of golf, camaraderie, and generational connection.
