Bernhard Langer reflects on his memories at the PNC Championship and what makes the father-son event so special.
Bernhard Langer vividly remembers his first appearance at the PNC Championship. His son was still in high school—young, ambitious, and suddenly teeing off alongside legends. “We had a blast,” Langer recalls. “Back then, he had to compete against professional teams—hitting drives and aiming for the green with an 8-iron, even though he was three over par.” It wasn’t about the score. “It was just a great time,” Langer says. That debut marked the beginning of a tradition that continues to this day. “I loved this tournament from the moment I was invited.”
Legends, Majors and Family Bonds
The PNC Championship brings together golfers who have shaped the game. For Langer, that’s a big part of the appeal. “Being out there with other Major champions and legends of the game is something special,” he says. But it’s not about trophies or prestige—it’s about sharing the experience with family. “It’s one of my favorite tournaments.” Great careers meet budding swings, with Langer right in the middle—as both father and competitor.
A Holiday Tradition
The December date gives the event a unique charm, especially for Bernhard Langer. “It’s a wonderful time of year, right before Christmas, when families come together. It feels like a family reunion,” he says. While the PGA Tour and other circuits are on winter break, the PNC Championship offers a festive mix of golf, camaraderie, and generational connection.
