Matti Schmid drops from lead at World Wide Technology Championship

Matti Schmid slips to seventh after round three in Mexico. Rosenmüller and Paul climb the leaderboard with strong rounds.

After leading the field on Friday, Germany’s Matti Schmid fell back to seventh place on Saturday at the World Wide Technology Championship on the PGA Tour. Schmid opened his third round with a birdie but immediately gave up the lead with a bogey on the second hole, ending his bogey-free streak. Despite adding more birdies, two additional bogeys led to a round of 71. He now sits at 19-under-par, unable to match his earlier rounds of 64 and 63.

South African Garrick Higgo surged into the lead with a stunning 61 on Saturday, jumping from 15th to first place. Higgo is now 22-under-par, just ahead of four Americans. Carson Young carded a 63 and trails by one shot at 21-under. Trevor Cone, Chad Ramey, and Ben Griffin are tied for third at 20-under-par.

PGA Tour: Rosenmüller and Paul make leaderboard gains

At El Cardonal at Diamante in Mexico, fellow Germans Thomas Rosenmüller and Jeremy Paul made significant moves on moving day. Rosenmüller opened his round with an eagle and added seven birdies, offsetting a single bogey on the second hole. His 64 moved him up five spots to T16 at 15-under-par.

Jeremy Paul followed closely behind with a bogey-free 65, featuring seven birdies. The 31-year-old from Frankfurt climbed four spots and now sits T23 at 14-under-par, just one stroke behind Rosenmüller.
