DP World Tour: Final Round Set After Rain Halts Play in Johannesburg

Heavy rain forced the suspension of the Alfred Dunhill Championship’s third round on the DP World Tour in Johannesburg.

Saturday’s Moving Day at the DP World Tour event in Johannesburg started early but ended abruptly. Organizers had scheduled early tee times to avoid the forecasted storms, and around 40 players managed to begin their rounds. However, no one got beyond six holes before play was halted due to thunderstorms and unplayable course conditions at Royal Johannesburg & Kensington Golf Club. Standing water on fairways and greens made continuation impossible. Tournament Director David Williams confirmed: ‘After two suspensions, we had no choice but to call it off.’ The event has now been shortened to 54 holes, making Sunday’s third round the final round of the Alfred Dunhill Championship.

Play is scheduled to resume at 6:30 a.m. local time on Sunday, with the final groups teeing off around 7:20 a.m. A dramatic finish is expected, as the leaderboard remains tight. Eugenio Chacarra leads at -15, with Jayden Schaper two shots behind. German players Marcel Schneider, Marcel Siem, and Joel Girrbach did not start their rounds before play was suspended. All three will now begin their final push on Sunday. Girrbach is inside the top 10, Schneider starts from T17 at -8, and Siem from T51 at -4.
